Ancient History: Part 1 Prehistory - Egypt Student Workbook
This course covers the beginning of history, from Mesopotamia, to Egypt. This is not a typical textbook style curriculum, but a detailed exploration of the ancient cultures and corresponding geography presented in a living history format. Architecture, art, and literature for each culture will be explored. Includes narration, copy work, living books, projects, activities, and map work. We will explore such works as the Epic of Gilgamesh, Hittite Warrior and The Golden Goblet.
Cultures will be studied individually so that each can be known intimately.
"Children come into the world with a natural appetite for all the material of knowledge; for interest in the heroic past and in the age of myths; for a desire to know about everything that moves and lives; about strange places and strange peoples; …The fatal mistake is in the notion that he must learn 'outlines,' of the whole history...of the world. Let him, on the contrary, linger pleasantly over the history of a single man, a short period, until he thinks the thoughts of that man, is at home in the ways of that period. Though he is reading and thinking of the life time of a single man, he is really getting intimately acquainted with the history of a whole nation for a whole age.”
